Givaudan seeks a Senior Patent Attorney in Zug, Switzerland, to advise global management teams and drive the company's intellectual property strategy.
This position serves as a trusted advisor to the global Flavour & Fragrances & Active Beauty, S&T management teams and adjacent business functions. The role is central to executing Givaudan’s corporate intellectual property strategy and objectives. The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of Global Intellectual Property and work from the Zug office.
Responsibilities
- Advise on intellectual property matters.
- Oversee IP portfolios for S+T managers across F&F & AB and related business units.
- Deliver regular updates to the Head of IP on significant issues and activities.
- Guide and support junior team members.
- Handle the full lifecycle of patent portfolios, including drafting, filing, prosecution, and maintenance.
- Draft and negotiate intellectual property terms in third-party agreements.
- Manage intellectual property risks.
- Assist the Head of IP in leading negotiations to resolve third-party IP disputes and contentious proceedings.
- Represent the IP department in S&T business platform or Centre of Excellence management meetings.
Requirements
- Qualified as a European Patent Attorney or hold an equivalent national qualification.
- Hold an advanced degree (Master's minimum, PhD preferred) in a relevant scientific field such as chemistry or biology.
- Possess at least five years of post-qualification experience in a law firm or industrial setting.
- Demonstrate fluent English proficiency.
- Show thorough knowledge of global patent and intellectual property laws.
- Have experience drafting and negotiating intellectual property aspects of third-party agreements.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of the fragrances, food, and cosmetics industry.
Nice to have
- Hold a dual qualification as a European Patent Attorney and a registered attorney before a relevant national office (e.g., US, UK, or DE).
- Hold a PhD.
