Senior Patent Litigation Paralegal

Novartis seeks a Senior Patent Litigation Paralegal in Basel, Switzerland, for a full-time hybrid role. The position supports in-house IP litigation, managing case operations, stakeholder coordination, and process improvements within a global team.

This role is part of Novartis’s in-house IP team, focused on modernizing and streamlining global patent litigation operations. It is designed for a proactive professional who can drive efficiency and digital innovation in complex litigation environments, serving as the operational backbone for patent cases and ensuring alignment across stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide independent support to in-house patent litigation counsel on enforcement and defense cases.
• Lead case operations by tracking key milestones, organizing documentation, and ensuring timely follow-up on tasks.
• Coordinate with external legal counsel, business units, finance, and global IP teams to maintain seamless collaboration.
• Maintain precise, audit-ready records to enable accurate reporting, forecasting, and governance.
• Prepare concise meeting summaries, action logs, and case status updates to keep matters progressing.
• Assist in litigation budget planning and forecasting in collaboration with counsel and finance partners.
• Contribute to process improvements, workflow development, and template creation, including leveraging digital tools and AI where applicable.
• Act as a central contact point for information sharing across regions, ensuring effective document and data management.

Requirements

• Extensive experience as a Patent or IP Litigation Paralegal, either in-house at a multinational company or in an IP litigation law firm.
• Proven ability to manage complex litigation support tasks independently with minimal oversight.
• Strong organizational abilities and the capacity to prioritize across multiple cases and stakeholders.
• Experience creating schedules, trackers, and supporting materials for attorney review.
• Comfortable communicating with internal business partners and external counsel across various countries.
• High level of integrity, reliability, and a service-focused approach.
• Excellent written and spoken English skills.

• A paralegal qualification, certification, or equivalent professional experience.
• Prior exposure to litigation budgeting, forecasting, or analytics.
• Interest in process improvement, digital transformation, and innovative work methods.
• Demonstrated leadership or mentoring experience within a paralegal team.
