Platform Engineer

ITech Consult AG seeks a Senior Platform Engineer in Rotkreuz to develop and maintain a custom Linux distribution and OS abstraction layer for medical devices using C++.

The company is looking for an experienced engineer to lead the creation and upkeep of its proprietary Linux distribution tailored for medical devices. The position centers on building the next-generation OS abstraction layer, with a strong emphasis on the C++ backend and system daemons.

Responsibilities

• Build and sustain a custom OS abstraction layer, prioritizing the C++ backend and the upcoming system daemon.
• Create a wide range of plugins that expose operating system functions via an RPC API.
• Provide technical guidance for medical instrument and software development initiatives.
• Maintain system quality by writing C++ unit and integration tests, refactoring older code, and handling Debian packaging and configurations.
• Support the continuous evolution of the in-house Linux distribution used for medical devices.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of practical experience with modern C++.
• Proficiency in using Linux as a primary development environment.
• A Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong communication skills in English, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• A collaborative mindset with a proactive attitude, quick learning abilities, and independence in problem-solving.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with virtualization, container technologies, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with cloud providers like AWS and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
• Background in embedded software, hardware drivers, ARM platforms, or hardware/software integration.
• Knowledge of the German language is considered an advantage.
