IOB seeks a PostDoc in Basel to lead computational and experimental research on visual physiology, bridging basic science with clinical applications to understand vision and develop therapies.

This position is based within the Quantitative Visual Physiology group at IOB. The role focuses on combining basic and clinical research to advance the understanding of vision and create new treatments for visual impairments. It leverages access to human, primate, and rodent retinal tissue alongside quantitative tools and close collaboration with clinicians.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop projects focused on visual physiology through experimental methods.
  • Execute ex vivo electrophysiology experiments on retinal tissue from humans, primates, pigs, and mice.
  • Conduct in vivo recordings in mice and perform electroretinograms on both mice and human subjects.
  • Utilize virtual reality headsets to carry out psychophysics studies.
  • Analyze data and computationally interpret results, including population decoding techniques.
  • Build computational models of retinal circuits and perform biophysical modeling.
  • Investigate the biophysics of electroretinogram signal generation and enhance signal-to-noise ratios using multielectrode recordings and innovative light stimulus designs.

Requirements

  • Experience with electrophysiology techniques.
