Microsoft seeks a Principal Forward Deployed Engineer in Zürich to lead technical solutions for strategic accounts. The role requires fluent German and deep engineering expertise to embed with customers and deliver production-ready outcomes.
This position places a senior technical leader directly within customer teams to address their most complex challenges. The individual serves as the primary technical authority for a strategic account, bridging business needs with engineering execution to ship robust, production-grade solutions. It is a high-impact role demanding strong credibility with executive stakeholders and the ability to navigate ambiguity while driving accountability.
Responsibilities
- Translate business requirements into actionable technical strategies that drive measurable customer outcomes.
- Design and deliver production-ready solutions within customer environments, taking full end-to-end ownership of engineering execution.
- Accelerate value delivery by working effectively in ambiguous situations and providing iterative, high-impact results.
- Build trust and align priorities with senior stakeholders to guide both technical and business decision-making.
- Leverage industry and customer-specific context to tailor solutions, avoiding generic approaches.
- Prepare work for handover to Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) teams with clear scope and technical direction to ensure continuity.
- Apply an entrepreneurial mindset to manage complex account dynamics, set clear boundaries, and drive urgency.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree plus at least six years of experience in engineering, technical program management, data analysis, or product development.
- Minimum of three years managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
- Proven experience partnering directly with customers or internal stakeholders to deliver end-to-end solutions.
- Fluent proficiency in German.
Nice to have
- Bachelor’s degree plus ten or more years of experience in engineering, technical program management, data analysis, or product development.
- Eight or more years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
- Two or more years in customer-facing technical roles such as consulting, solutions engineering, or field engineering.
- Experience with AI/ML technologies, cloud architecture, data engineering, and using AI tools to create software engineering artifacts.
- Willingness and comfort with travel up to 25% of the time.
What the company offers
- Competitive base pay for IC4 level: CHF 146,200.00 - CHF 245,900.00 per year.
- Competitive base pay for IC5 level: CHF 183,800.00 - CHF 309,900.00 per year.
