Forward Deployed Engineer

Scalera seeks a Forward Deployed Engineer in Zürich to bridge engineering and customer success, building AI-powered procurement solutions for the European construction industry through hands-on, on-site work across the DACH region.

This position sits at the crossroads of engineering, product development, and customer success. The role focuses on translating complex customer needs into technical solutions while working directly with users to refine and deploy AI-driven procurement tools for the construction sector.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with clients to map out tender processes, identify areas for automation, and craft technical strategies.
• Travel frequently to client sites throughout Switzerland, Austria, and Germany to observe operations firsthand and implement solutions in real-world settings.
• Develop and roll out tailored automations, system integrations, and AI-driven workflows using the company's platform.
• Quickly create prototypes, test them in live environments, and scale successful use cases into broader platform capabilities.
• Serve as the technical liaison between clients and the core product team, sharing insights and suggesting new features.
• Manage projects from initial discovery through launch and ongoing refinement while upholding strong engineering practices.
• Conduct independent workshops, product demonstrations, and technical sessions with clients.

Requirements

• At least four years of experience as a Forward Deployed Engineer or product engineer within B2B SaaS or technical settings.
• Ability to navigate complex, unstructured workflows, communicate technical ideas directly with clients, and convert requirements into functional software.
• Strong customer-facing communication skills, including the confidence to lead workshops, demos, and technical discussions independently.
• A proactive ownership mindset capable of driving ambiguous projects from concept to delivery without extensive oversight.
• Readiness to travel regularly to client locations across Switzerland, Austria, and Germany, including extended on-site periods.
• Fluency in German (C1 level or higher) and English, both written and spoken.
• Clear communication style and strong collaborative abilities within a team.

Nice to have

• Background in solutions engineering, forward-deployed engineering, or technical consulting.
• Familiarity with construction technology, procurement platforms, or ERP system integrations.
• Practical experience with LLM applications, workflow automation, or document intelligence systems.
• Knowledge of Python, FastAPI, Django, GCP, or large-scale data infrastructure.
