Amazon Switzerland seeks a Principal Technical Program Manager in Zürich to lead strategic programs for AWS Digital Sovereignty, ensuring data control for customers within European regulatory frameworks.
This position supports AWS’s mission to define the future of sovereign cloud computing. The incumbent will drive high-level strategic initiatives that allow clients to retain full control over their data while utilizing AWS infrastructure. The role demands significant technical acumen and the capacity to align diverse teams toward shared business objectives without direct managerial authority.
Responsibilities
- Create yearly strategic roadmaps that synchronize technical contributors to achieve unified business results.
- Spot gaps and emerging opportunities across various countries, technical architectures, and organizational structures.
- Shape technical priorities and business strategies using data-backed insights and analysis.
- Cultivate and sustain relationships with executive leadership, including Directors and Vice Presidents.
- Partner with the Director and Go-to-Market teams to organize and deliver impactful executive customer sessions.
- Oversee global initiatives and coordinate work among matrixed groups of Solution Architects, Technical Program Managers, and Account Managers.
- Guide execution through collaboration and influence, offering technical mentorship to peers without direct reporting lines.
- Establish clear, measurable success metrics that align with internal customer needs across different business units.
- Evaluate risks, predict bottlenecks, manage escalations, and balance business requirements against technical limitations.
- Track team outcomes and cross-functional deliverables using Salesforce and other monitoring tools.
- Work closely with AWS service teams (such as EC2, S3, and Bedrock), Infrastructure, Partners, and Professional Services.
- Drive cross-functional projects that speed up innovation and improve customer outcomes.
- Encourage knowledge exchange and the development of best practices among technical staff.
- Strengthen organizational capabilities to ensure consistent handling of complex technical issues.
- Apply strong, data-driven technical judgment to decision-making processes.
- Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of intricate projects in ambiguous or new technology areas.
- Develop scalable methodologies and best practices for the broader organization.
- Identify past technology failure patterns and guide teams to avoid repeating them.
- Draft effective narratives, including PRFAQs and strategic documents, and present them to senior leadership.
- Provide technical reviews and input to support the Go-to-Market team in creating and scaling enablement materials.
Requirements
- Proven experience in project management, covering scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and critical path management.
- Background in developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level.
- Eight or more years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, or five or more years with a Master's degree or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of digital sovereignty, regulated industries, public sectors, regulators, and European data regulations such as GDPR, C5, and SecNumCloud.
- Experience building processes and collaborating with software development teams.
- History of leading the creation, revision, and improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs).
