The School of Engineering at HES-SO Valais-Wallis is expanding its Life Sciences faculty and invites applications for a professorship dedicated to educating future professionals in the field. The position centers on guiding applied, industry-aligned research that utilizes artificial intelligence for biotechnology and bioanalytics, bridging academic instruction with practical scientific advancement.
Responsibilities
- Deliver lectures and courses in biochemistry, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning for both Bachelor and Master level students.
- Secure external funding to establish and direct research projects focused on deep learning and AI techniques for processing large-scale biological and multi-omics datasets, including predictive modeling and phenotypic data integration.
- Build and sustain professional connections with industry partners to enhance the quality of degree programs and support research initiatives.
Requirements
- Hold a PhD in Computational Biology, Biochemistry, Systems Biology, Chemistry, or a closely related Life Sciences discipline, demonstrating strong proficiency in AI and machine learning.
- Possess deep expertise in applying deep learning, machine learning algorithms, and statistical modeling to complex and large biological datasets.
- Demonstrate fluent English communication skills, along with working proficiency in either French or German.

- Previous professional experience within the relevant industrial sector.
- Background in explainable AI, multimodal data integration, or predictive modeling specifically for biomedical or biological contexts.
- A strong interest in translational research that serves industry needs, combined with a genuine passion for student education.
