ABB Power Grids seeks a Project Control Engineer for Power Converters in Turgi, CH. The role involves hardware/software planning, control software implementation, and on-site commissioning within the Power Converter Solutions competence center.
This position sits within the control engineering team at ABB Power Grids' Power Converter Solutions competence center, which specializes in developing, manufacturing, installing, and commissioning high-power electronic converters. The role supports the integration of renewable energy sources into electrical grids and enhances overall system efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Plan hardware and software for power electronic converters, including concept preparation, specification, and documentation.
- Coordinate technical aspects between customers, sub-suppliers, and internal factory teams.
- Define hardware interfaces, evaluate electrical components, and conduct calculations and design reviews.
- Implement control software and perform testing using a real-time simulator.
- Conduct on-site commissioning and provide customer training.
- Support the sales department during concept and tender phases.
- Assist customers with technical converter issues during office hours and on-call duty (24/7) for several weeks annually.
- Collaborate with control, system, and mechanical engineering teams, as well as project managers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from a university or technical college.
- Experience in process control and software design (OLC, CLC, Protection, HMI).
- Strong knowledge of control engineering and power electronics.
- Fluency in German and English.
- Experience in testing and commissioning.
- Ability to work responsibly as a team player with strong communication skills.
Nice to have
- Proficiency in Python programming.
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as OPC, IEC61850, IEC60870-5-104, and DNP3.
- Willingness to travel globally for commissioning (approximately 15% of working time).
