ABB Power Grids seeks a Project Control Engineer for its Power Converter Solutions team in Turgi, Switzerland. The role focuses on high-power electronic converters and combines engineering with real-world applications.
This position sits within the Competence Center 'Power Converter Solutions' at ABB Power Grids, where the team develops high-power electronic converters for STATCOM, rail power supply, and grid interconnections. As a member of the Control Engineering group, the role blends technical engineering tasks with practical, real-world implementation.
Responsibilities
- Manage control engineering tasks throughout projects, covering hardware and software planning, specifications, and documentation.
- Act as the technical liaison between customers, external suppliers, and internal departments.
- Assess and define hardware interfaces, including electrical parts and design evaluations.
- Build and deploy control software, validating it on real-time simulation systems.
- Conduct on-site commissioning, testing, and customer training sessions.
- Offer technical assistance during project phases and post-delivery.
- Assist the sales department with technical concepts and tender materials.
- Work alongside control, system, and mechanical engineering teams, as well as project managers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a university or university of applied sciences.
- Proven experience using MATLAB and Simulink.
- Solid understanding of process control and software design, including OLC, CLC, Protection, and HMI.
- Fluent command of both English and German.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as OPC, IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104, and DNP3.
- Prior exposure to testing, commissioning, or applied engineering tasks.
