Radar System Engineer

Senior Radar System Engineer role at Destinusgroup in Zürich, focusing on next-generation digital radar systems for high-performance aerospace applications. The position involves system architecture, component selection, and cross-domain collaboration to meet strict SWaP-C targets.

This role centers on developing advanced digital radar systems for demanding aerospace environments, where performance per gram, watt, and millisecond is critical. It sits at the intersection of system architecture, electronics, and mission-critical defense applications, supporting Destinusgroup’s mission to revolutionize the defense industry with cutting-edge UAVs. The engineer will define system requirements, lead technical trade-offs, and collaborate across hardware, software, signal processing, and mechanical domains.

Responsibilities

• Model the behavior of bistatic radar systems
• Conduct system-level simulations to forecast performance using key metrics such as signal-to-noise ratio and resolution
• Validate system models against real-world measurements
• Design and optimize transmitter and receiver architectures
• Draft system requirements and technical specifications
• Lead cross-domain system studies covering hardware, software, signal processing, and mechanical aspects
• Work closely with RF, digital design, software engineering, signal processing, and mechanical engineering teams

Requirements

• Strong grasp of transmitter and receiver architectures, including amplifiers, mixers, filters, clock circuits, PLLs, and A/D and D/A converters
• Experience creating behavioral models for RF and analog components, preferably using Python
• Knowledge of waveform design and digital communication fundamentals
• Solid understanding of radar signal processing techniques

Nice to have

• Prior experience with bistatic radar systems
• Familiarity with FPGA devices
