Roche seeks a Computer Science or related major for a 9-12 month onsite internship in Basel to drive digital transformation within the Pharmaceutical & Solid State Development department.
This internship, part of the Roche Internship program in Synthetic Molecules (RiSM), supports the Pharmaceutical & Solid State Development department. The primary goal is to advance digital transformation by consolidating various applications into a centralized digital interface within the Pharma Technical Development team in Basel, Switzerland.
Responsibilities
- Merge separate digital tools into one unified user interface that aligns with pharmaceutical development business logic.
- Maintain the central platform, apply necessary upgrades, and create new features based on requests.
- Construct dependable data pipelines, build sturdy data products, and establish secure backend connections.
- Review, refactor, and reorganize older code to ensure it meets enterprise standards for scalability, documentation, and smooth operational transitions.
- Prepare a unified application and data architecture that is ready for future integration with Roche's internal agentic AI tools.
- Work closely with scientists and project owners to convert complex scientific workflows into clear, structured digital requirements.
Requirements
- Current university student or recent graduate (within 12 months) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or a similar technical field.
- Strong skills in full-stack web development, including framework knowledge, API design, and clean software architecture.
- Experience in core data engineering, such as automating data pipelines and integrating analytical models into frontend systems.
- Familiarity with version control using Git, code auditing, and writing clean, scalable, and well-documented code.
- Excellent proficiency in English.
- Non-EU/EFTA citizens must provide a university certificate confirming the internship is mandatory for their studies and proof of enrollment for the entire duration.
