Roche seeks an intern in Basel to support the Pharmaceutical & Solid State Development department with image-based machine learning workflows for spray-dried materials. This is a six-month, onsite role focused on analytical characterization and automation, not for thesis work.
This internship is embedded within the Pharma Technical Development team in Basel, Switzerland. The primary objective is to assist the Pharmaceutical & Solid State Development department by creating and refining image-based machine learning workflows. The position focuses on practical project execution rather than academic thesis writing.
Responsibilities
- Conduct literature reviews to identify relevant scientific context for the project.
- Complete training on standard operating procedures and utilize manufacturing or analytical equipment.
- Improve and advance analytical characterization techniques specifically for spray-dried materials.
- Apply machine learning algorithms to automate the classification and characterization of various particle shapes.
- Regularly discuss project milestones with supervisors and define subsequent steps.
- Compile scientific reports and present findings to the Roche Synthetic Molecule development community.
Requirements
- Current university student or recent graduate (within 12 months of start date).
- Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Technology, Data Sciences, Cheminformatics, or Chemistry.
- Ability to work reliably and accurately in a non-GMP environment.
- Proficiency in Python and data science libraries such as OpenCV, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch for building image processing pipelines.
- Self-sufficient approach with strong problem-solving skills.
- Strong command of MS-Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and AI tools.
- Fluent English communication skills.
