A 9-12 month onsite internship in Basel with Roche Chemical Manufacturing and Trading Company AG, focused on digital transformation and full-stack development within the Pharmaceutical & Solid State Development department.
This internship is part of the Roche Internship program in Synthetic Molecules (RiSM) and supports the Pharmaceutical & Solid State Development department. The primary goal is to drive digital transformation by consolidating standalone applications into a centralized digital interface, ensuring the platform is scalable, secure, and ready for future AI integration.
Responsibilities
- Merge existing standalone digital tools into a single, cohesive user interface based on pharmaceutical development business logic.
- Maintain the unified platform, apply critical upgrades, and build new features requested by stakeholders.
- Create reliable data pipelines, robust data products, and secure backend integrations.
- Audit, refactor, and restructure legacy code to meet enterprise standards for scalability, documentation, and operational handovers.
- Design an AI-ready unified application and data architecture to facilitate seamless integration with internal agentic AI tools.
- Collaborate with scientists and project owners to translate complex scientific workflows into structured digital requirements.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or graduated within 12 months of a degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or a related technical field.
- Strong proficiency in full-stack web development, including framework expertise, API design, and clean software architecture.
- Experience in core data engineering, automating robust data pipelines, and embedding analytical models into frontend systems.
- Familiarity with version control (Git), code auditing, and writing clean, scalable, and fully documented code.
- Excellent proficiency in English.
- This position is not suitable for writing a Bachelor/Master/Diploma thesis.
