Eawag seeks a Scientist (70-80%) to lead research on nature-based solutions in Indian cities, focusing on systemic barriers and actionable recommendations for sponge parks in Chennai and Mumbai.
The company is looking for a researcher to join the “Organizations and Climate” and “Multifunctional blue-green design” teams. In this role, you will execute a specific work package for the Mainstreaming Nature-Based Solutions in Indian Cities initiative, a joint effort with Sponge Collaborative, ISD Foundation, and 360 Carbon.
Responsibilities
- Analyze systemic opportunities and barriers to implementing and scaling nature-based solutions in Chennai and Mumbai.
- Deliver evidence-based, actionable recommendations for deploying nature-based solutions, with a focus on sponge parks, within the Indian context.
Requirements
- An interdisciplinary academic background that bridges social and environmental sciences.
- Experience conducting applied research in South Asia, preferably in Chennai or Mumbai, along with a solid understanding of urban governance in these cities.
- A track record of peer-reviewed publications related to nature-based solutions, sponge cities, or water governance.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of institutional capacity assessment frameworks, such as scorecards or maturity models.
- Understanding of the implementation processes for infrastructure projects in India and the relevant stakeholders involved.
