Senior Data & Analytics Engineer

LimeFlight AG seeks a Senior Data & Analytics Engineer in Zürich (remote) to own the data platform and BI layer, transforming data into actionable insights that support the company's zero-waste mission in aviation.

This position holds full responsibility for the data platform and business intelligence layer. The role focuses on converting raw data into valuable insights that help customers make better decisions and achieve measurable environmental impact. A key objective involves modernizing an existing vendor-built BI solution into a robust, product-grade data platform.

Responsibilities

• Manage the complete data platform, including Databricks and Microsoft Fabric, while designing and maintaining scalable lakehouse architectures and pipelines.
• Develop and operate ETL/ELT workflows capable of handling batch and near real-time data processing.
• Guarantee data quality, system reliability, observability, and optimal performance.
• Establish data standards, contracts, and architectural principles.
• Balance workloads and optimize costs across different platforms.
• Manage Power BI semantic models, KPIs, and dimensional models using star schema design.
• Ensure DAX performance, dataset refresh consistency, and aggregation efficiency.
• Create and maintain customer-facing dashboards and embedded analytics solutions.
• Facilitate self-service analytics while maintaining proper governance.
• Convert business and customer requirements into scalable data solutions.
• Collaborate with Product to define KPIs and reporting standards.
• Develop validation scripts, unit tests, and data quality checks.
• Implement CI/CD, testing, and versioning for pipelines and BI assets.
• Support multi-tenant architecture, security, and governance.
• Set up monitoring and alerting systems.
• Reverse-engineer existing vendor BI pipelines, logic, and reports.
• Reduce technical debt by rebuilding toward a clean architecture.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in data or analytics engineering for customer-facing BI products.
• Background in SaaS or product-driven environments.
• Demonstrated success in building scalable data platforms and customer-facing analytics.
• Deep expertise with Databricks, including Spark, PySpark, and Delta Lake.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric or the Azure data stack.
• Proficiency in Power BI, covering data modeling, DAX, and performance optimization.
• Advanced SQL skills and strong dimensional modeling expertise (Kimball methodology).
• Knowledge of lakehouse architecture and ETL/ELT design.
• Experience with multi-tenant data models and embedded analytics.
• Familiarity with CI/CD for data pipelines and BI assets.
• Ability to write reusable, modular, maintainable, and testable code.
• Understanding of monitoring and data quality practices.
• Proficiency with version control tools like Git.
• Minimum English proficiency at C1 level.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of Azure infrastructure, including IAM and networking.
• Experience with data quality and testing frameworks such as Great Expectations.
