Senior Lead Engineer

ABB seeks a Senior Lead Engineer in Baden, CH, to oversee engineering activities for Mining & Materials Plant Automation, reporting to the Engineering Manager.

This position serves as the technical lead for all engineering assignments within the Mining & Materials Plant Automation sector in Switzerland. The individual acts as the design authority for technical solutions and deliverables, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager while coordinating both internal and external engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary design authority for engineering outputs and technical solutions for internal stakeholders, clients, and regulatory bodies.
• Partner with customers to define and implement solutions, incorporating feedback to drive continuous improvement.
• Support project managers in managing scope, assessing risks and opportunities, and executing mitigation strategies.
• Direct and coordinate all engineering disciplines, including in-house and outsourced resources, for high and medium complexity projects.
• Collaborate on installation, commissioning, and site activities to resolve engineering issues and ensure technical accuracy.
• Develop technical specifications, cost estimates, and deliverable definitions for sales proposals.

Requirements

• Extensive proficiency with large-scale process automation DCS systems, particularly ABB 600xA or equivalent platforms.
• Eight to ten years of experience in engineering and commissioning for large-scale process automation projects.
• Minimum of two years in a lead engineer capacity, managing teams of five to ten engineers across software and electrical disciplines.
• Deep understanding of IEC 61850, TCP/IP networks, and fieldbus protocols such as Profibus/Net, Modbus TCP/RTU, and OPC.
• Strong knowledge of cybersecurity practices aligned with the IEC 62443 standard framework.
• Experience with power and energy management systems, including software and hardware design, engineering practices, and relevant codes.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering, industrial automation, or a related technical field.
• Fluent communication skills in English.
