Senior PL/I Mainframe Developer

SUMMIT RECRUITMENT AG seeks a Senior PL/I Mainframe Developer in Zürich to support market migrations and maintain z/OS applications.

This position strengthens the Zurich-based development team by driving critical market migration projects. The developer will focus on PL/I-based applications, ensuring seamless integration with DB2, IMS, and web services while supporting strategic business goals.

Responsibilities

• Create, maintain, and enhance PL/I applications within the IBM Mainframe (z/OS) environment.
• Facilitate market migration initiatives by guaranteeing robust system integration and high data quality.
• Manage DB2 databases to ensure efficient data processing and retrieval.
• Partner with cross-functional agile teams located in Zurich and Wroclaw.
• Perform performance tuning, code optimization, and general quality improvements.
• Consult with business stakeholders to align technical deliverables with strategic objectives.

Requirements

• Extensive expertise in PL/I programming for mainframe solutions.
• Proven experience operating within z/OS environments.
• Ability to write optimized SQL queries and work effectively with DB2.
• Practical knowledge of IMS databases and VSAM file structures.
• Understanding of mainframe-based web service integrations.
• Strong analytical skills for handling complex processes and critical data.
• Capacity to collaborate effectively in an agile setting.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Job Control Language (JCL) and REXX automation scripting.
• Knowledge of mainframe transaction processing.
• Demonstrated experience in optimizing PL/I and DB2 performance.
• Understanding of Scrum or Kanban workflows.
• Previous exposure to financial or banking applications.
