Destinusgroup in Payerne, CH, seeks a Senior Propulsion Test Engineer for full-time onsite work. The role involves planning and executing solid rocket motor and igniter tests, ensuring safety and compliance in high-energy environments.

This role focuses on the safe planning, execution, and continuous improvement of solid rocket motor and igniter testing. It requires hands-on ownership of test campaigns in hazardous environments, with a strong emphasis on procedural rigor and operational safety. Destinus is advancing the defense industry through cutting-edge Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and collaborates with global government and defense organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of solid rocket motor and igniter test campaigns
  • Create and document test plans and procedures for SRM and igniter testing
  • Conduct test readiness reviews and pre-test briefings
  • Design and refine safety protocols, hazard analyses, contingency plans, and emergency procedures
  • Serve as test conductor during live firings, managing personnel and safety zones
  • Ensure compliance with internal safety standards and relevant regulations
  • Assist in defining and validating instrumentation and data acquisition needs
  • Oversee test setup, inspections, dry runs, and functional checks
  • Lead or assist in investigations of test anomalies, misfires, or incidents
  • Prepare detailed test documentation, including plans, risk assessments, reports, and lessons learned
  • Work closely with propulsion, mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineers
  • Support upgrades to test infrastructure, firing stands, remote operations, and safety systems

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • At least 4 years of experience in propulsion or high-energy system testing
  • Proven ability in test planning, procedure development, and hands-on test execution
  • Solid knowledge of test safety, including hazard identification, risk assessments, explosive safety, and emergency planning
  • Required experience with energetic materials, propellants, pyrotechnic devices, or high-pressure systems
  • Familiarity with propulsion test instrumentation and data acquisition systems
  • Capability to remain calm and decisive during critical ignition and firing events
  • Strong communication skills to lead test operations and coordinate cross-functional teams
  • Proactive, ownership-focused mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently and within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team
  • Fluency in English is mandatory

Nice to have

  • Prior experience in solid rocket motor or igniter development and testing, including static firing tests or ignition system validation
  • Proficiency in German
