Senior Quantitative Engineer - Quantitative Systems Engineer

Alpiq AG seeks a Senior Quantitative Engineer in Lausanne, Switzerland, to develop high-performance systems for quantitative finance and energy trading. The role involves integrating modeling, computational science, and software engineering into practical solutions, with relocation support provided.

This newly created senior position is part of Alpiq AG’s transformation in trading and reports directly to the Head of Quantitative Engineering. It focuses on building robust, high-performance systems for quantitative analytics, optimization, and energy trading, integrating computational science and software engineering into real-world applications.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-performance systems for quantitative analytics, trading workflows, and risk management
• Develop and optimize models for pricing, asset optimization, and risk calculations, prioritizing performance and reliability
• Process real-time market and operational data to support analytics and decision-making systems
• Work with Trading, Structuring, Risk, and Quant teams to deliver production-ready solutions
• Manage projects from initial concept through implementation and ongoing enhancement
• Ensure system reliability, monitoring, CI/CD pipelines, and maintainability in collaboration with IT
• Support engineering best practices, mentor team members, and drive continuous improvement

Requirements

• University degree, preferably a Master’s or PhD, in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
• Extensive experience in software engineering across backend, frontend, databases, APIs, and infrastructure
• Proven background in computationally intensive workflows, real-time data processing, and performance-critical systems
• Experience in quantitative finance, energy markets, market data, and asset modeling
• Proficiency in Python and modern compiled languages, with expertise in low-level optimization and numerical computing frameworks
• Strong skills in system design, emphasizing reliability, maintainability, and performance
• Effective communication and collaboration abilities across front-office and cross-functional teams
• Fluent English
• Willingness and ability to relocate to Lausanne, Switzerland
