(Senior) Researcher in SoC Architecture

The company is seeking a senior researcher in Zürich to design next-generation computing architectures for wireless systems, focusing on performance, efficiency, and fundamental innovation.

The company's Swiss research division aims to push the boundaries of future computing systems through fundamental innovation. This position focuses on exploring novel architectures tailored for next-generation wireless networks, analyzing critical design trade-offs, and collaborating with cross-functional experts to turn these concepts into viable technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Create and verify efficient system, hardware, and software solutions that fulfill specific product needs and address complex engineering challenges.
  • Maximize computational output while ensuring the highest possible energy efficiency standards.
  • Investigate emerging technological approaches that align with evolving performance demands and system limitations.
  • Monitor technology trends and suggest innovative solutions to enhance performance, power consumption, area utilization, and flexibility.
  • Contribute to strategic and business planning discussions.
  • Manage cooperation projects with industry and academic partners, ensuring independent oversight of development and operations.

Requirements

  • Master's or doctoral degree in Computer Science.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in a relevant field.
  • Proven expertise in System-on-Chip (SoC) architecture, particularly within high-performance computing environments.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of SoC and system architecture supported by extensive practical experience.
  • Solid grasp of power and performance trade-offs, area and energy efficiency improvements, and the interaction between SoC data and control flows.
  • Deep understanding of computing architectures, including programmable/reconfigurable designs, dataflow architectures, computing in/near memory, and interconnect design.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of microprocessor subsystems (microarchitecture), memory systems (cache, scratchpad, memory hierarchy), and on-chip interconnects.
  • Familiarity with hardware-software interfaces and their interactions.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent written communication skills for clear and concise reporting.

Nice to have

  • Experience in wireless and cellular technologies, such as LTE or 5G NR, is preferred.
  • Experience in manycore design and RISC-V is preferred.
  • A background in compiler design is preferred.
