Software Architect, Software/Firmware Device Interface Design

Logitech · Lausanne

Logitech seeks a Senior Software Architect to design device-host interfaces for peripherals, ensuring seamless integration across platforms. The role requires expertise in C++, software architecture, and AI-driven design, with a hybrid work model in Lausanne, CH.

The Software Architect for SW/FW Device Interface Design plays a central role in Logitech’s engineering organization, shaping the technical bridge between device firmware and host software. This position connects product, engineering, and embedded teams to translate feature requirements into robust, scalable interface designs that support Logitech’s diverse range of peripherals.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the main software architecture contact throughout new product development, from initial concept to production readiness.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners and UX teams to understand feature goals and ensure interface designs fully support them.
  • Convert product needs into clear, complete interface specifications that engineering teams can implement confidently.
  • Work with downstream software teams to ensure interface designs meet integration needs and scale across product platforms.
  • Identify and resolve integration risks early through design reviews, walkthroughs, and prototyping.
  • Co-develop interface designs with Embedded Software Architects, defining communication protocols, data models, and message semantics for the device-host boundary.
  • Document interface designs clearly to serve as the official reference for the device communications layer implementation.
  • Facilitate discussions among embedded, application, and platform teams to define appropriate design boundaries and responsibilities.
  • Design interfaces with modularity, reusability, and testability in mind, supporting future expansion across product lines.
  • Ensure designs are robust and compatible with Logitech’s wide range of devices, including keyboards, mice, headsets, and webcams.
  • Lead proof-of-concept development to validate interface designs, reduce risks, and align the team.
  • Serve as the technical authority for the device communications layer, defining design patterns and principles for C++ implementation.
  • Review architecture and code to ensure the comms layer matches specifications and provides a clean interface for downstream teams.
  • Use AI-assisted design methods to speed up interface modeling and architectural decision-making across software and firmware.
  • Promote AI-augmented development practices within the engineering team, potentially contributing to internal LLM tool development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on software development experience.
  • 3+ years in software architecture, interface design, or systems engineering.
  • Fluent in modern C++, with ability to design, review, and contribute to C++ codebases for device communication and systems software.
  • Proven experience developing and optimizing desktop applications for Mac and Windows.
  • Understanding of software-hardware integration and experience with Human Interface Devices (HID).
  • Demonstrable experience using AI-driven tools and methods in software design or development.
  • Strong analytical skills to solve complex engineering problems across firmware, software, and product teams.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to synthesize technical information.
  • Structured, organized, and detail-oriented mindset with quick problem-solving ability.
  • Open-minded and diplomatic, with cultural awareness.
  • Ability to manage stress, handle multiple projects, and adapt to different time zones.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing software interfaces for hardware integration in consumer electronics or peripheral devices.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as HID, USB, and Bluetooth LE in device software integration.
