Speechify seeks a Senior Software Engineer in Geneva to architect and build native Windows desktop applications. This fully remote role focuses on accessibility, performance, and long-term product strategy.

The company operates with a fully distributed team and no physical office. In this position, you will define the technical architecture for the Windows product, ensuring that reading remains accessible for all users. You will take ownership of the application's future, driving design decisions and feature development from initial concept through to maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop native Windows desktop software utilizing Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++.
  • Establish and uphold best practices for code structure, performance optimization, and long-term maintainability.
  • Implement and verify accessibility features using Windows APIs to ensure the software is usable by individuals with disabilities.
  • Partner with product designers, UX researchers, QA teams, and stakeholders to influence feature planning and the product roadmap.
  • Manage the complete feature lifecycle, from initial design and development to ongoing support and updates.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues, including performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and compatibility conflicts.

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience building Windows desktop applications with Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML.
  • Strong grasp of Windows application architecture, particularly the interaction between managed .NET code and native code.
  • Demonstrated history of designing, building, and releasing production-ready desktop software.
  • Proficiency with Windows accessibility APIs, such as Microsoft UI Automation.
  • Solid engineering fundamentals in object-oriented programming, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and asynchronous or multi-threaded programming.
  • Experience in leading technical designs, mentoring peers, conducting code reviews, and making high-level architectural choices.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams.

Nice to have

  • Background in writing automated UI tests, including unit, integration, and UI automation tests.
  • Experience optimizing desktop application performance, such as reducing memory usage, improving startup times, and supporting high-DPI displays.
  • Knowledge of localization, internationalization, right-to-left UI support, and multi-region accessibility.
  • Familiarity with telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring tools for desktop apps.
  • Experience shaping CI/CD workflows, release pipelines, and deployment strategies for desktop software.
  • Proven ability to own feature areas or modules long-term, including managing technical debt and maintenance.
