Senior Underwriter / Underwriter Energy (all gender), Full-Time or Part-Time

Helvetia seeks a Senior Underwriter for its Energy specialty line in Zürich. The role focuses on risk analysis, portfolio management, and broker negotiations for engineering and energy accounts.

Helvetia Specialty Lines provides customized insurance solutions for complex sectors such as engineering, marine, aviation, and art. This position invites the candidate to lead underwriting efforts for Energy accounts, aiming to expand the company's presence in Switzerland and on the global stage by balancing client needs with long-term profitability.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-depth underwriting analyses for Energy accounts, covering risk engineering, pricing, terms, and capacity allocation.
• Evaluate risk exposures, loss expectancies, and maximum possible loss scenarios to guide underwriting decisions.
• Manage portfolio quality by assessing and controlling accumulations, with a specific focus on natural catastrophe risks.
• Negotiate policy terms with brokers and clients to create sustainable solutions that ensure profitability.
• Ensure all underwriting actions comply with Helvetia Group’s governance standards and directives.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships within the Energy client and broker network.
• Represent the company at industry events, site inspections, and meetings with clients and brokers.
• Collaborate with claims specialists on complex cases to maintain a holistic understanding of risks.

Requirements

• A university degree in engineering, natural sciences, business, or a related discipline.
• Professional experience in Energy underwriting or direct expertise from the Energy sector.
• Strong analytical abilities paired with confidence in negotiation, client engagement, and business development.
• Solid business acumen and a thorough understanding of Energy insurance markets, trends, and client requirements.
• Excellent proficiency in English.

Nice to have

• An additional commercial qualification, such as an MBA.
• Proficiency in German.
