Open Systems AG seeks a Junior Systems Engineer in Zürich to build virtual test platforms and cloud workflows for SASE edge deployments within a collaborative, entrepreneurial team.
This position is part of the Edge Cloud team, where you will construct and sustain custom virtual test environments alongside cloud provisioning workflows tailored for SASE edge deployments. Operating within a compact, high-performing group, the role rewards an entrepreneurial approach to problem-solving and product development.
Responsibilities
- Develop minimum viable products rapidly, collaborating directly with users to refine the product based on their feedback.
- Utilize AI coding assistants to boost productivity while maintaining a deep grasp of the codebase and high craftsmanship standards.
- Anticipate technical challenges, suggest viable solutions, and take ownership of implementing them.
- After completing internal training in networking and security, dedicate approximately 20% of your time to resolving live customer issues.
- Create, manage, and enhance the virtual test infrastructure used by engineering teams to validate releases on the company’s custom operating system prior to production.
- Write and upkeep Infrastructure as Code templates for provisioning and managing resources on Azure and GCP.
Requirements
- Early-stage engineering professional with a strong academic background.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language, with Python or Go being preferred.
- Solid understanding of Linux systems and command-line operations.
- Familiarity with Git and collaborative software development practices.
- Fundamental knowledge of networking principles, including TCP/IP, DNS, and HTTP/S.
- Excellent communication abilities and a team-oriented attitude.
- A pragmatic mindset that prioritizes functional results over perfection.
Nice to have
- Prior experience working with cloud providers such as Azure, GCP, or AWS.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or Terragrunt.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Buildkite, Jenkins, or similar platforms.
- Academic coursework or personal interest in network security and SASE architectures.
- Proficiency in Bash scripting.
