Xelon AG seeks a Junior DevOps Engineer in Zug to support infrastructure reliability and deployment automation. The role offers structured mentorship and a clear path to a full DevOps position within a product-driven team.
This position focuses on maintaining reliable, scalable, and secure infrastructure while assisting with deployment processes. Responsibilities
- Maintain and enhance system stability through patching, updates, backups, and certificate management.
- Assist in deploying new services and migrating to improved solutions.
- Support troubleshooting efforts and conduct root-cause analysis across the platform.
- Help build and maintain automated deployment pipelines using tools like Bitbucket Pipelines and ArgoCD.
- Assist with rollbacks, deployment health checks, and release coordination.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code components such as Kubernetes, Ansible, and Terraform.
- Ensure configuration consistency across development, staging, and production environments.
- Maintain and improve observability tooling including CheckMK, Loki, Grafana, Tempo, Prometheus, and Sentry.
- Contribute to dashboards and alerting to increase signal and reduce noise.
- Support automated security checks in CI/CD pipelines, including SAST, DAST, and SCA.
- Help ensure deployments meet compliance and security requirements, including TLS/SSL, firewalls, and network policies.
- Write and maintain clear, easy-to-follow technical documentation.
Requirements
- Completed IT apprenticeship (e.g., Informatiker/in EFZ) or comparable education, or first professional experience in IT operations/infrastructure.
- Solid Linux/Unix fundamentals: shell, processes, file systems, permissions, and remote access (SSH/RDP).
- Basic networking knowledge: IP, DHCP, DNS, gateways, firewalling.
- First experience with scripting (Bash, with exposure to Python, PowerShell, or Golang).
- Basic understanding of containers (container vs. VM, Docker basics).
- A genuine motivation to learn new technologies where the knowledge is not yet there.
- Fluent German and good English, written and spoken.
Nice to have
- First exposure to CI/CD and IaC tooling (Bitbucket Pipelines, ArgoCD, Terraform, Ansible)
- Familiarity with monitoring and security tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, LGTM; SAST/DAST/SCA)
- First contact with Kubernetes, load balancing (Nginx, Apache, HAProxy, Traefik, Keepalived), or OpenStack / GitOps
- Relevant certifications (e.g. CKA, Terraform Associate, RHCE)
- An enthusiastic homelab and a good sense of humor
