Thermo-Mechanical R&D Engineer

Sécheron Hasler Group seeks a Senior Thermo-Mechanical R&D Engineer in Satigny, CH, to design and validate electro-mechanical components for DC medium voltage systems.

This position sits within the Electrical Safety Solutions unit, where the primary focus is developing components that safeguard critical infrastructure. The role leverages the company’s 140-year Swiss engineering heritage to create high-power electrical and electronic equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical and thermal design, development, and validation of electro-mechanical components for DC medium voltage applications.
• Perform multiphysics simulations, with a specific focus on cooling mechanisms and heat transfer dynamics.
• Guide products from initial concept feasibility through finite element analysis, prototyping, and validation testing until certification and launch.
• Oversee industrialization processes, manage product improvements, and maintain existing product lines.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Mechanical, Energy, or Electro-Mechanical engineering, or a Bachelor’s degree with extensive relevant experience.
• Proven track record in designing complex systems that integrate thermal, mechanical, electrical, and magnetic technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to drive advanced concept invention and resolve critical technical challenges.
• At least five years of successful experience as a designer for electromagnetic devices.
• Fluency in either French or English.
• Strong knowledge of finite element analysis, including thermal, multi-physics, and stress analysis.
• Proficiency in technical documentation and reporting.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• High attention to detail, precision, and accuracy.
• Sensitivity to cost implications and risk management.

Nice to have

• Prior experience in the railway or power distribution sectors.
• Background in testing and validating products against international standards.
• Familiarity with 3D CAD modeling, particularly Solidworks.
• Experience using COMSOL for simulations.
• Solid understanding of electro-magnetism principles.
