AI Engineer - Reinforcement Learning (Senior)

Rivr seeks a Senior AI Engineer specializing in Reinforcement Learning to develop autonomous robotic algorithms for physical AI delivery solutions in Zürich.

This position focuses on advancing robotic intelligence by applying reinforcement learning techniques to both simulated and real-world environments. The role is central to enabling autonomous motor commands from raw sensor data for doorstep delivery robots.

Responsibilities

• Create advanced reinforcement learning methods that allow robots to perform motor actions directly from sensor inputs.
• Design, evaluate, and improve algorithms for complex locomotion, autonomy, and manipulation challenges.
• Work closely with computer vision and imitation learning specialists to develop approaches using simulation and live data.
• Write optimized, production-ready code for deployment on physical robots within their hardware limits.
• Lead, build, and mentor a high-performing software engineering team.
• Advise product managers and leadership on strategic technical decisions.
• Develop and maintain documentation, guidelines, and best practices to improve team knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• Master's degree or higher in Engineering, Robotics, Machine Learning, or a related discipline.
• At least five years of professional or research experience, with PhD-level work considered.
• Solid foundation in deep learning, including supervised, self-supervised, and reinforcement learning methods.
• Proven background in robotics, particularly in autonomy or manipulation.
• Experience deploying artificial neural networks on hardware platforms.
• Proficiency in writing production-level code in modern C++.
• Ability to prototype algorithms and train deep neural networks using Python.

Nice to have

• PhD in Robotics, Engineering, Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, or equivalent research experience.
• Publications in top-tier conferences.
• Experience managing a software team.
