SLAM Software Engineer

Amazon RIVR seeks a Mid-level SLAM Software Engineer in Zürich to develop autonomous wheeled-legged robots for last-mile delivery, focusing on localization and mapping algorithms.

Amazon RIVR is advancing Physical AI by creating wheeled-legged robots capable of navigating complex, unstructured environments for doorstep delivery. This role supports the team in engineering the next generation of safe, reliable autonomous systems, ensuring they can operate effectively in real-world conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer advanced online and offline localization and SLAM techniques by integrating data from cameras, LiDAR, IMU, GNSS, and other sensors.
  • Design, test, and refine algorithms using challenging real-world datasets to enhance performance.
  • Help build dynamic environmental maps by utilizing data collected during continuous robot operations.
  • Develop reliable sensor calibration systems that function well in unpredictable settings.
  • Establish efficient workflows for capturing ground truth data and mapping deployment sites to support algorithm evaluation.
  • Write production-ready code optimized for the robot’s computational limits and deploy it to the physical hardware.
  • Produce and update documentation and best practices to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Robotics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
  • At least three years of professional experience in industry or research settings.
  • Solid background in computer vision, robotics, or autonomous driving, with specific experience in 3D visual or LiDAR SLAM, place recognition, structure from motion, filtering, or Bayesian estimation.
  • Strong foundation in mathematics, including linear algebra, vector calculus, probability theory, and mathematical optimization.
  • Proficiency in writing production-level code in modern C++ and prototyping in Python.
  • Prior experience deploying SLAM or localization algorithms on actual hardware platforms.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with state-of-the-art deep learning methods for SLAM and localization.
  • Published papers at top-tier academic conferences.
  • Hands-on experience with ROS or ROS2 frameworks.
