AIML - Machine Learning Research, Multimodal Foundation Models

Apple seeks a Senior Machine Learning Researcher in Zürich to develop multimodal foundation models for image understanding and generation, shipping features to millions of users.

This position is part of a close-knit, fast-growing team of world-class engineers and scientists at Apple. The primary focus is on building multimodal foundation models, with a specific emphasis on image understanding and generation. The role requires collaborating with cross-functional partners to apply these advanced models to ship features that impact millions of users.

Responsibilities

• Create algorithms, techniques, and systems that advance the state of the art in deep learning.
• Address complex challenges in foundation models and deep learning, including natural language processing and multi-modal understanding.
• Identify and develop novel applications of deep learning for Apple products.
• Publish research papers.
• Improve the experience of millions of users through product features.

Requirements

• Demonstrated expertise in deep learning with a publication record in relevant conferences.
• Deep understanding of multi-task, multi-modal machine learning domain.
• Proficient programming skills in Python and one of the deep learning toolkits such as JAX, PyTorch, or Tensorflow.
• PhD, or equivalent practical experience, in Computer Science, or related technical field.

Nice to have

• A track record in applying deep learning techniques to shipping products.
• Experience with multi-modal perception for existing products and future hardware platforms.
• Experience with on-device intelligence and learning with strong privacy protections.
• Ability to quickly prototype ideas / solutions, perform critical analysis, and use creative approaches for solving complex problems.
• Ability to collaborate closely with globally distributed teams.
