AIML - Machine Learning Researcher, MLR

Apple seeks a Senior Machine Learning Researcher in Lausanne to lead long-term, curiosity-driven projects in LLMs and agentic systems, driving foundational AI advancements for future products.

This position focuses on innovative foundational research in machine learning, with a specific emphasis on large language models, generative foundation models, and agentic systems. The successful candidate will engage in ambitious, long-term projects that aim to shape the future of Apple’s AI capabilities and product ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• Design and carry out research initiatives to deepen the understanding of machine learning through practical implementation and experimentation.
• Offer technical guidance and mentorship to peers and team members.
• Draft technical documentation and present findings at scientific conferences.
• Partner with cross-functional teams within Apple to influence the development of upcoming products.
• Disseminate research outcomes by publishing in top-tier scientific journals and venues.

Requirements

• A PhD in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent hands-on professional experience.
• Proven track record of expertise in conducting machine learning research.
• A history of publications at major conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AAAI, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ACL, or EMNLP.
• Practical proficiency with deep learning frameworks including JAX, PyTorch, or MLX.

• Solid mathematical foundation in linear algebra and statistics.
• Capability to independently define research problems, design experiments, implement solutions, and communicate results.
• Experience thriving in diverse, collaborative team settings.
• Familiarity with recent advancements in reinforcement learning and agentic tools.
