Bioprocess Specialist (m/f/d)- Your next role ?

Givaudan seeks a Bioprocess Specialist in Vernier to develop and scale biotechnological processes for fragrance ingredients, bridging science, engineering, and manufacturing.

This position sits within the Fragrance Ingredients Industrialisation Department in Vernier, Switzerland, reporting to the Manager of the Biotechnology Laboratory. The role focuses on advancing fermentation and biocatalysis technologies, acting as a key link between scientific research, engineering principles, and large-scale manufacturing to bring future fragrance ingredients to market.

Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory experiments to support the development and industrialization of bioprocesses, covering upstream and downstream processing, fermentation, and biocatalysis.
• Generate, analyze, and record experimental results to inform development strategies in close coordination with the laboratory manager.
• Serve as the team’s biotechnology subject matter expert by disseminating knowledge, mentoring colleagues, and scouting emerging technologies for potential value.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and manufacturing teams to anticipate scale-up needs and resolve technical hurdles early in the process.
• Assist in pilot-scale trials and production rollout by performing necessary analyses throughout the development chain to ensure seamless transfer to industrial application.
• Maintain daily laboratory operations, including inventory management, equipment upkeep, and ensuring a safe, efficient, and compliant workspace.
• Participate in defining and executing technical investment projects for the bioprocess lab, such as assessing capabilities, drafting specifications, and selecting equipment.
• Work with Process Analytical Technologies and Engineering specialists to deepen process understanding, optimize operations, and prepare for scale-up.
• Drive continuous improvement of laboratory workflows, technologies, and capabilities alongside the lab manager.

Requirements

• A university degree in Biochemistry, Life Science Technology, Bioengineering, or a related discipline, or a CFC as a laboratory technician in chemistry or biology.
• Between 5 and 10 years of experience in bioprocess industrialization, including 2 to 5 years in an industrial setting.
• Strong practical expertise and theoretical knowledge of fermentation processes.
• Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting data.
• Demonstrated professionalism, dynamism, and a cooperative team spirit.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Fluency in French or a strong willingness to learn, plus good written and oral English skills.

• Familiarity with industrial fermentation technologies, including downstream processing (DSP).
