Scientist – Process Development (Protein Fractionation)

The company seeks a mid-level Scientist for Process Development in Protein Fractionation at its Bern location. The position involves experimental work, data analysis, and supporting biopharmaceutical process optimization.

This role is part of the Eurofins PSS team, based at a client site in Bern, to assist with process development activities for plasma-derived biopharmaceuticals. The position blends practical laboratory experimentation with rigorous data analysis and scientific evaluation to drive project success.

Responsibilities

• Design, run, and assess lab experiments using scale-down models to advance process development.
• Help develop and refine methods for protein fractionation and purification.
• Analyze experimental data to interpret results, aiding decision-making and ongoing improvements.
• Manage and improve databases to ensure data integrity, traceability, and actionable insights for lifecycle management.
• Draft protocols, technical reports, and other necessary documentation.
• Assist with transferring processes to the pilot plant and supporting scale-up efforts.
• Work closely with Eurofins PSS colleagues and client stakeholders.
• Adhere to all relevant quality, safety, and documentation standards.

Requirements

• An MSc or PhD in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, or a related field.
• Practical experience in protein purification, specifically using ÄKTA chromatography systems.
• Background in process development within bioprocessing and filtration contexts, including filter press systems.
• Strong capabilities in analytical thinking and data evaluation.
• Ability to write clear scientific reports and deliver effective presentations.
• A structured approach to work combined with a proactive attitude.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DoE) and statistical software such as JMP.
• Fluency in both English and German.
