The company seeks a Scientist for Viral/Pathogen Safety in Bern, Switzerland. This mid-level, full-time onsite role focuses on industry applications, risk assessments, and data-driven safety strategies for biologics and plasma products.
This position operates exclusively within an industry setting, concentrating on practical viral safety applications rather than academic or basic research. The scientist will work directly within the client's environment as a dedicated member of the Pathogen Safety Strategy (PSS) team.
Responsibilities
- Deliver scientific and operational guidance on pathogen safety, including strategies to control adventitious agents.
- Conduct risk assessments for viral and pathogen safety concerning process changes, deviations, investigations, and lifecycle management.
- Assist in creating and refining viral clearance methods and validation protocols.
- Draft and evaluate pathogen safety records, ensuring technical reports and inspection materials meet standards.
- Aid in regulatory submissions (CMC) and address inquiries from health authorities.
- Maintain documentation that is scientifically robust and compliant with regulatory standards like ICH Q5A.
- Partner with Technical Operations, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and Regulatory Affairs teams.
- Lead digitalization efforts in pathogen safety to enhance data organization, analysis, and utilization.
- Create and manage Power BI dashboards to track viral safety metrics, risk indicators, and process performance.
- Analyze data trends, such as deviations and contamination risks, to enable proactive risk management.
Requirements
- Master's or PhD in Life Sciences, such as Virology, Biochemistry, or Biology.
- 3–5 years of experience in R&D, Quality, or similar roles within pharma or biotech.
- Hands-on GxP experience, particularly with deviation and change assessments.
- Scientific and analytical expertise in virology, biochemistry and/or microbiology.
- Strong understanding of Viral safety principles (e.g. ICH Q5A) and virus clearance, inactivation, or validation strategies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Nice to have
- Experience with Power BI or similar data visualization tools, e.g. dashboard development, trend analysis, and reporting automation.
- Strong affinity for digitalization and data-driven decision-making.
- German language skills are an advantage.
