Baer AG seeks a Senior Data Platform Responsible in Zürich to lead the technical design, lifecycle management, and operational stability of a global data platform, ensuring alignment with business needs and architectural standards.
The company is looking for a senior professional to provide end-to-end technical leadership for a global data platform (datalake house). This role ensures the platform aligns with business objectives, maintains architectural standards, and delivers operational resilience through a blend of hands-on technical oversight, supplier management, and agile delivery support.
Responsibilities
- Act as a primary technical stakeholder for designing a modern global platform infrastructure.
- Integrate into the agile framework and assist the development team.
- Direct the technical design, development, and performance of the platform throughout its lifecycle while adhering to corporate standards.
- Help shape the technical roadmap, including technology updates, modernization efforts, and system decommissioning, in sync with business and architectural strategies.
- Develop and manage key deliverables such as Solution Design, Security Concept, and Interface Agreements, ensuring compliance with architecture standards alongside the System Architect.
- Coordinate application releases according to Change- and Release Management processes, collaborating with the Product Owner, Platform Owner, and ITSO to approve production go-lives.
- Oversee platform infrastructure and data development, promoting shift-left practices like automation, unit testing, and CI/CD to ensure robust implementation of requirements.
- Provide third-level support, act as the master data custodian in JBAR, and manage third-party application suppliers, including performance and delivery oversight.
- Estimate effort for changes, advise on technical risks and mitigation, support budgeting, and ensure technical requirements are validated and tested before release.
- Take ownership of the global data platform serving various analytics use cases, ensuring a stable and running environment.
- Assist the System Architect in identifying and maintaining technical debts.
- Support the Business Responsible and IT Product Owner in defining platform services and their execution.
Requirements
- Minimum 8 years of experience in Data Platforms, Data Lakes, or Data Lake houses, including technologies like Kubernetes, Kafka, and distributed storage (S3/HDFS), preferably on-premises.
- Several years of experience in a similar role within the financial industry.
- Proven experience in leading the technical direction of data platforms and staying current with modern tooling, formats, and concepts.
- Experience managing the full platform lifecycle, from concept and design through development, testing, deployment, operation, and retirement, including master data, incident support, and release coordination.
- Skills in VM setup and scaling (pods), Kubernetes scaling, Docker management with Harbor, and pushing images through CI/CD with the development team.
- Higher education in Computer Science (University, University of Applied Sciences, or equivalent diploma).
- Strong communication, planning, and coordination skills.
- Proactive, reliable, and solution-driven mindset with a willingness to bring new ideas and initiate changes.
- Good English language skills (written and verbal); German is a plus.
- Strong team player with a customer-oriented focus on supporting the organization in providing solutions.
- Very good understanding of data technology and its operational management.
- High self-motivation to drive initiatives and initiate changes.
