Expert Analytical Scientist (m/f/d)

Novartis seeks a Senior Expert Analytical Scientist in Basel to lead analytical activities for oligonucleotides within the ARD team, ensuring rigorous characterization from discovery through commercial production.

This position sits within the Analytical Research & Development (ARD) group under the Technical R&D Department. The team is essential for characterizing and analyzing drug substances and products as they move from early discovery into full-scale manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage the full lifecycle of analytical work for oligonucleotides, including planning, execution, interpretation, and reporting.
  • Apply advanced analytical techniques for method development, validation, transfer, stability testing, release assays, and formulation analytics.
  • Drive the adoption and integration of emerging analytical technologies.
  • Resolve technical challenges related to analytical methods and equipment by providing scientific explanations and practical solutions.
  • Promote and disseminate best practices while offering expert guidance to project teams and the broader analytical community.
  • Draft and evaluate analytical documentation, including raw data records, validation protocols, and standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate laboratory activities for assigned projects, covering scheduling, experiment oversight, and data interpretation.
  • Support internal and external audits and regulatory inspections to ensure compliance and minimize findings in assigned areas.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in analytical chemistry or a closely related field.
  • At least two to three years of professional experience within the pharmaceutical sector.
  • Proven expertise in liquid chromatography techniques, specifically IPRP, AEX, and Hilic.
  • Solid understanding of GMP quality principles and regulatory expectations relevant to drug development.
  • Fluent proficiency in English for both written and verbal communication.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience with Coulometry for water determination, UV-Spectrometry for assay or melting point analysis, and colorimetry or turbidimetry methods.
  • Previous background in oligonucleotide analytics.
