Roche seeks a Senior/Principal Scientist specializing in NMR analytics within its preclinical Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls department in Basel, Switzerland.
This position operates within the Analytical Molecular Characterization group, functioning as a Centre of Excellence for Analytics under the Small Molecule Research organization in pRED Therapeutic Modalities. The role focuses on leveraging advanced NMR techniques to support synthesis and formulation development while shaping the strategic direction of NMR capabilities across the Roche portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and document NMR experiments to determine molecular structures and analyze inter- and intra-molecular interactions.
- Utilize advanced analytical methods to accelerate project timelines and identify potential technical hurdles during synthesis and formulation stages.
- Create and introduce novel NMR methodologies, offering strategic input for the future evolution of the NMR group.
- Monitor industry developments and establish academic collaborations to maintain high scientific standards.
- Provide expert insights to influence the mid- and long-term strategic planning for NMR applications within the company.
- Translate strategic objectives into practical team goals in coordination with the NMR group and leadership.
- Build and sustain productive partnerships with internal discovery teams, technical development groups, and external collaborators.
Requirements
- A Master's degree with at least five years of industry experience, or a PhD with a minimum of three years of professional background.
- Extensive expertise in NMR analytics, including a thorough grasp of the theoretical and technical foundations for both liquid and solid-state NMR beyond routine applications.
- Practical experience in using NMR for structure elucidation and interaction studies involving synthetic oligonucleotides and/or peptides.
- Proven track record in conducting higher-order structure and aggregation studies.
- A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a willingness to explore innovative working methods.
- Ability to thrive in multidisciplinary matrix environments.

- Familiarity with additional biophysical characterization techniques.
