Subject Matter Expert Solid State Science

Roche seeks a Senior Subject Matter Expert in Solid State Science within its pRED organization in Basel, CH, to lead solid-state strategy for early-stage drug candidates.

This position sits within Roche's Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED) group, specifically under the Therapeutic Modalities division. The role is dedicated to translating disease biology into viable drug candidates, with a particular emphasis on small molecules, peptides, and nucleic acid-based therapies.

Responsibilities

• Identify the most suitable solid-state form for candidates in the early development phase.
• Manage intricate screening and characterization tasks across internal facilities and international external partners.
• Drive cross-functional initiatives to mitigate risks for drug candidates and establish the 'Golden Form'.
• Serve as the primary accountable party for the solid-state strategy of designated projects.
• Oversee the complete lifecycle management of materials.
• Facilitate collaboration between Chemistry, Analytics, and Formulation teams.
• Lead the assessment, technical review, and selection of global external CRO/CMO partners.
• Promote the implementation of digitalization and automated screening tools.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Material Science, or a related field.
• Strong focus on solid-state characterization and crystallization.
• Deep understanding of solid-state analytical techniques (e.g., XRD, DSC, TGA, DVS, Microscopy).
• Proven ability to lead complex projects in a matrix environment.
• Experience managing external CRO/CMO relationships.
