Senior/Principal Associate in Pharmaceutical Technical Development – Drug Product Formulation & Process Development - fixed term for 2 years

Roche seeks a Senior/Principal Associate for Pharmaceutical Technical Development in Basel, focusing on particle characterization for drug products in a 2-year fixed-term role.

This position sits within the PTD Europe Joint Particle Lab, serving as the Center of Excellence for characterizing particles in parenteral dosage forms. The role involves close collaboration with the Department Analytical Development and Quality Control Biotech Europe to support innovation and root cause investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, perform, and document particle characterization experiments for biotechnological and synthetic molecule drug products.
  • Collaborate with Pharmaceutical and analytical development teams to review sample requests and interpret results.
  • Execute lab work efficiently following established procedures, ensuring high-quality documentation for particle characterization and investigations.
  • Evaluate, introduce, and develop new technologies and methods for particle identification, contributing to innovation projects.
  • Assist in planning and monitoring work packages.
  • Drive continuous improvement of general processes, SOPs, work instructions, and end-to-end particle workflows.

Requirements

  • BSc or MSc in a life science discipline (such as biochemistry, biology, pharmacy, or chemistry) or equivalent vocational scientific qualifications (e.g., apprenticeship as a Chemical or Biological Laboratory Technician or Pharmaceutical Technical Assistant).
  • Proven professional experience in biotherapeutics or synthetic parenteral molecules.
  • Strong theoretical and practical background in particle analysis and identification.
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to FAIR data and ALCOA+ principles.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficient IT skills, including word processing (MS Word/gDoc) and spreadsheets (MS Excel/gSheet).

Nice to have

  • Experience with Raman microscopy.
  • Background working in a GMP environment.
  • German language skills.
  • Familiarity with advanced software for data visualization or statistical analysis.
