Head of Engineering & Production

EPM Scientific seeks a Head of Engineering & Production in Basel to lead GMP manufacturing operations, drive continuous improvement, and manage multidisciplinary teams.

This senior leadership position is responsible for overseeing all manufacturing and engineering activities within a complex GMP-regulated facility. The role focuses on ensuring operational excellence, maintaining high standards of safety and compliance, and driving strategic initiatives that support business growth and site objectives.

Responsibilities

• Direct all production and engineering functions in a GMP-compliant environment.
• Ensure batch manufacturing processes operate safely, efficiently, and in full regulatory compliance.
• Implement operational excellence programs targeting quality, productivity, cost reduction, and delivery performance.
• Create and execute manufacturing strategies aligned with broader business goals.
• Manage production planning, resource allocation, capacity utilization, and team performance.
• Lead continuous improvement efforts using methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Theory of Constraints.
• Maintain rigorous GMP compliance, HSE standards, and readiness for regulatory inspections.
• Mentor and develop multidisciplinary teams across production and engineering.
• Oversee operational budgets, manufacturing costs, and capital improvement projects.

Requirements

• Extensive leadership experience in pharmaceutical, chemical, biotech, or highly regulated manufacturing sectors.
• Proven track record of managing production operations under cGMP regulations.
• Strong background in drug substance, API, chemical, or batch manufacturing processes.
• Experience leading large operational teams and navigating organizational change.
• Familiarity with automated manufacturing systems, including DCS or similar process control platforms.
• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering, or a related field.
• Fluent German and professional English language skills.

• Advanced qualification such as a PhD or equivalent.
