Head of Fixed Income Sales

Vontobel seeks a Head of Fixed Income Sales in Zurich to lead its institutional client and capital markets business, managing a team of 5, overseeing P&L, and driving strategic growth in CHF markets. The role requires extensive experience in fixed income sales, leadership skills, and fluency in German and English.

This role is designed to succeed the current leadership and further develop Vontobel’s established institutional client and capital markets business. It combines strategic leadership with active client engagement and commercial accountability, shaping the future of the Fixed Income Sales and Capital Markets franchise.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Fixed Income Sales team of 5 FTEs, promoting a high-performance culture, mentoring talent, and ensuring cross-functional collaboration.
  • Own the profit and loss for the Fixed Income business, including revenue generation, cost control, and budget planning and monitoring.
  • Set and execute the strategic direction for the Fixed Income Sales franchise to ensure sustainable growth and market relevance.
  • Provide full sales coverage for the Fixed Income product range, including government bonds, SSAs, covered bonds, corporate bonds, and private placements.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with key Swiss and international institutional investors, acting as a trusted advisor.
  • Take full responsibility for Lead Manager and syndicate roles in primary market transactions, coordinating internal and external stakeholders.
  • Deliver high-quality market intelligence, investment ideas, and product updates to clients.
  • Serve as a key liaison with internal teams such as trading, research, structuring, treasury, risk, and compliance to ensure seamless execution and top-tier client service.
  • Track market trends, regulatory changes, and competitor activity to maintain a competitive edge for the franchise.

Requirements

  • Advanced education in banking or finance; a university degree or CFA/FRM is highly advantageous.
  • 8–12+ years of experience in Fixed Income Sales, with a strong focus on CHF markets.
  • Proven leadership experience, including team management and performance delivery in a front-office setting.
  • Demonstrated success in revenue generation and client franchise development, with P&L responsibility preferred.
  • Established client network among Swiss and international institutional investors.
  • In-depth knowledge of fixed income products, primary and secondary markets, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong commercial orientation, able to convert market opportunities into revenue.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities, with executive presence.
  • Fluency in German (mandatory) and English.

  • University degree or CFA/FRM certification.
  • Proficiency in French and/or Italian.
