Internship – Machine Learning for Antibody Discovery from Sequencing Data

Roche offers a full-time internship in Basel for Master’s students in technical fields, focusing on machine learning for antibody discovery using sequencing data. The role involves developing AI-driven methods and collaborating with global teams.

The AIDD team, part of Roche’s Computational Sciences Center of Excellence, uses advanced machine learning to transform biologic drug discovery. Within the Large Molecule Drug Discovery group, the focus is on creating next-generation therapeutic antibodies by integrating deep biological knowledge with computational innovation. The internship involves analyzing large-scale sequence data to uncover insights that support the design of effective molecules.

Responsibilities

• Create machine learning approaches inspired by language models and unsupervised learning to build reliable and broadly applicable solutions.
• Work closely with team members in Basel, New York, and San Francisco.
• Help produce scientific publications and present findings at internal and external conferences.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a Master’s programme in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field.
• Solid understanding of machine learning principles.
• Familiarity with language models, causal representation learning, and unsupervised learning techniques.
• Hands-on experience in designing and training neural networks.
• Experience with at least one deep learning framework, preferably Pytorch.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal abilities.

Nice to have

• Prior experience applying machine learning to biological data.
• Interest in developing unconventional models and a practical ability to solve complex technical challenges.
