Destinusgroup in Zürich, CH, seeks a Senior Kinetics Specialist to lead technical operations for kinetic defense systems, from design to production. The role requires expertise in munitions, energetic materials, and explosive safety standards, with direct reporting to the Head of Kinetics.
This mission-critical role serves as the technical anchor for propulsion and energetic systems, ensuring safety, quality, and execution align across all stages from design to industrial-scale production. Destinus is advancing the defense industry with cutting-edge Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, collaborating with global government and defense partners.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for manufacturing kinetic defense components such as projectiles, warheads, rocket motors, and explosive parts.
- Monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot production processes to maintain quality, efficiency, and performance standards.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to implement design changes, process enhancements, and corrective actions.
- Conduct root cause and failure analysis for defects, non-conformances, and test outcomes.
- Take technical ownership of kinetic systems including munitions, energetics, rocket motors, fuses, and guided systems.
- Support integration and validation testing of prototypes and production units.
- Oversee safe handling, storage, transport, and disposal of energetic materials.
- Develop standard operating procedures, hazard analyses, risk assessments, and ensure compliance with explosive safety standards.
- Design and set up production and handling sites for energetic materials.
- Manage ammunition tracking, serialization, and lifecycle documentation.
- Act as the technical authority for explosive safety and occupational health risks.
- Carry out safety audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Lead investigations into incidents when required.
- Perform safety analysis and site design in line with local and international regulations.
- Analyze process control data and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support product qualification, certification, and approval of manufacturing changes.
- Maintain production records, test documentation, and configuration control.
- Schedule, coordinate resources, and track projects for the Kinetics team.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation.
- Coordinate with procurement, supply chain, and logistics teams.
- Support budgeting, cost estimation, customer interactions, and program reviews.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field, with 5+ years of experience in munitions, defense manufacturing, or energetic materials.
- Proven hands-on experience with kinetic weapons systems and explosive production in regulated defense environments.
- Strong technical understanding of propellants, explosives, energetic manufacturing processes, and materials science.
- Experience with quality systems, statistical process control, CAD tools, and technical documentation.
- In-depth knowledge of explosive safety standards, military regulations, and defense trade compliance.
- Exposure to advanced and emerging defense production technologies and kinetic systems.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, structured problem-solving, and a safety-first mindset.
- High attention to detail, clear communication, and effective collaboration across teams.
- Adaptable, proactive, and committed to continuous improvement.
- In-depth knowledge of explosive safety standards including NATO AASTP-1, MIL-SPEC, and other relevant regulations.
- Understanding of ITAR, EAR, and defense trade compliance requirements.
- Travel is required.
