Managing Consultant - Risk and Technical Safety

Ramboll Switzerland seeks a Senior Managing Consultant to lead technical safety and risk projects, providing expert guidance on regulatory compliance and complex assessments while managing multidisciplinary teams.

The company is looking for an experienced professional to serve as the primary technical and project lead for risk and technical safety initiatives. In this role, you will guide complex studies, ensure strict adherence to quality and regulatory standards, and mentor junior staff while delivering high-value consulting services to clients.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical authority for risk and safety projects, defining methodologies and assessment criteria.
  • Oversee technical studies including Quantitative Risk Assessments, consequence modelling, fire and explosion analysis, toxic release evaluations, and hazardous area classification.
  • Conduct process hazard analyses, HAZID, HAZOP, and major accident hazard assessments to ensure operational safety.
  • Review engineering documents, process data, and equipment specifications to validate their suitability for technical evaluations.
  • Translate complex technical results into actionable, risk-based recommendations for clients and internal teams.
  • Manage the full project lifecycle, including scope definition, resource planning, budget monitoring, and schedule adherence.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, allocating tasks based on competency and availability while ensuring timely delivery.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of reports, calculations, and models to ensure compliance with company and industry standards.
  • Act as the main point of contact for clients, managing expectations and communicating technical findings clearly.
  • Facilitate workshops, technical meetings, and client presentations to drive project progress and stakeholder alignment.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, mentoring, and constructive feedback to consultants and junior team members.
  • Support the development of technical scopes, work plans, and fee estimates for new or existing opportunities.
  • Promote a strong health and safety culture and ensure all site activities and project work are conducted safely.
  • Contribute to the improvement of technical procedures, templates, and quality-control processes within the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Process, Mechanical, or Safety Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Proven consulting or industry experience in process safety, risk assessment, or technical safety domains.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical studies and produce high-quality technical reports.
  • Strong project management skills, including experience with scope, budget, schedule, and resource management.
  • Experience supervising, reviewing, and coordinating the work of technical team members.
  • Ability to present technical findings and recommendations effectively to clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with recognized risk and consequence modelling software.

Nice to have

  • A relevant master’s degree.
  • Professional registration or active progress towards professional accreditation.
  • Experience facilitating or supporting HAZID, HAZOP, or similar risk assessment workshops.
