Packaging Material Science Specialist (recycled PET)

Nestlé seeks a Senior Packaging Material Science Specialist in Lausanne to lead R&D on recycled PET and polyolefin packaging for food contact, managing projects from innovation to launch.

This position sits within the Nestlé Institute of Packaging Sciences at Nestlé Research. The role centers on research and development for recycled PET and recycled polyolefin packaging materials intended for food contact. The specialist will oversee projects throughout the entire journey from initial innovation to final launch.

Responsibilities

• Participate in research and development initiatives focused on recycled PET and polyolefin materials.
• Spearhead innovation by suggesting novel packaging solutions, recycling methods, and food safety evaluations.
• Oversee project documentation, schedules, and outcomes while adhering to quality and safety protocols.
• Offer technical guidance to research and development teams, operations, and market divisions regarding the adoption of rPET.
• Facilitate cooperation between experts in food safety, material science, and packaging.
• Deliver technical support during industrialization, product introductions, and ongoing enhancement efforts.
• Create and record scientific insights via experiments, trials, and internal updates.
• Work with internal and external stakeholders, such as suppliers, academic institutions, and research centers.

Requirements

• Master's or doctoral degree in Polymer Science or a related scientific discipline emphasizing chemistry.
• Demonstrated background in research and development, operations, or technical market roles.
• Comprehensive knowledge of PET and recycled plastics.
• Track record of managing projects, budgets, and cross-functional objectives.
• Strong problem-solving capabilities and the confidence to make decisions.
• Superior written and verbal communication abilities, including presentation skills.
• Team-oriented approach with excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
• Fluent command of English.
