CSEM in Neuchâtel seeks a PhD candidate to research in-pixel intelligence for embedded vision systems, focusing on hardware-software co-design and energy-efficient accelerators.
This PhD position at CSEM centers on advancing in-pixel intelligence for embedded vision systems. The role involves exploring hardware-software co-design and symbolic integration to create next-generation edge AI solutions. The successful candidate will help develop energy-efficient accelerators tailored for real-time vision applications.
Responsibilities
- Create new hardware prototypes of neural architectures using FPGA or comparable platforms.
- Perform benchmarking and detailed performance analysis.
- Engage in deep research to push the boundaries of deep learning accelerators by investigating novel approaches.
- Develop methods to overcome memory transfer bandwidth limitations.
- Facilitate the transfer of technologies and innovations to industry, connecting academic research with practical applications.
- Share research outcomes by publishing in leading academic journals and presenting at major conferences.
- Assist in writing research proposals.
- Provide supervision and guidance to master's students.
Requirements
- Hold a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrate experience with QAT and post-training quantization techniques.
- Show proficiency in Computer Vision Algorithms.
- Possess knowledge of model compression and simplification methods, including quantization and pruning, to develop compact neural networks.
- Exhibit a strong foundation in machine learning algorithms and deep learning.
- Be familiar with hardware design and/or accelerator technologies such as FPGA, TPU, or microcontrollers.
- Display research aptitude through prior coursework, projects, or a demonstrated eagerness to engage in research activities.
- Maintain a strong academic record with outstanding performance in relevant coursework.
- Be fluent in English.
