The Paul Scherrer Institut seeks a PhD candidate for the PEARL beamline at the Swiss Light Source, focusing on altermagnetic materials and offering doctoral studies with teaching duties at the University of Zurich.
This position is based at the PEARL beamline within the Swiss Light Source facility. The successful candidate will pursue a doctoral degree while actively engaging in teaching responsibilities at the University of Zurich.
Responsibilities
- Investigate the atomic and electronic properties of altermagnetic substances through photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning probe microscopy.
- Work alongside the team to maintain and enhance experimental instruments and data analysis software.
- Collaborate with both experimental and theoretical researchers to advance projects.
- Provide guidance and assistance to external users conducting experiments at the PEARL beamline.
- Share findings through presentations at scientific conferences and publications in academic journals.
- Contribute to educational activities and teaching sessions at the University of Zurich.
Requirements
- Hold a Master’s degree in physics or a closely related discipline.
- Possess hands-on experience with surface analysis methods, such as scanning probe techniques (STM, AFM) or photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS, ARPES).
- Demonstrate strong programming abilities, particularly in Python, for processing and analyzing data.
- Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
