The Paul Scherrer Institut seeks a PhD candidate to study nanostructural adaptations in mineralized tissues using X-ray scattering and imaging techniques, enrolled via EPFL.
This position is part of the Structure and Mechanics of Advanced Materials Group within the Center for Photon Science at PSI. The successful candidate will be enrolled in the doctoral school of EPFL, focusing on the intersection of X-ray methods, computational analysis, and biological materials.
Responsibilities
- Create Python-based software tools to derive nanostructural data from SAXS tensor tomography experiments.
- Examine how biological tissues with mineral components, such as bone, modify their nanostructure in response to mechanical and functional stresses.
- Assist in designing and executing multi-scale analysis workflows that combine SAXS tensor tomography, high-resolution X-ray tomography, and electron microscopy data.
- Disseminate research findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international scientific conferences.
Requirements
- Hold a Master’s degree in Physics, Computational Science, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in written and spoken English.
