The Paul Scherrer Institut seeks a PhD candidate in Villigen to develop Python analysis tools for X-ray scattering imaging of mineralized tissues while enrolled at EPFL.
This position involves doctoral studies at the EPFL doctoral school. The role focuses on creating computational methods to understand how biological tissues like bone adapt their nanostructure under mechanical stress.
Responsibilities
- Create Python scripts to derive nanostructural data from SAXS tensor tomography experiments.
- Study the adaptation mechanisms of mineralized biological tissues, such as bone, to various functional and mechanical loads.
- Assist in building multi-scale analysis workflows that combine SAXS tensor tomography, high-resolution X-ray tomography, and electron microscopy data.
- Share research outcomes through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at global scientific conferences.
Requirements
- Hold a Master’s degree in Physics, Computational Science, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in written and spoken English.
