Post Doctorate Scientist – Vascularized Kidney Organoids - at the Institute of Human Biology (IHB)

Roche · Basel

Roche seeks a Post Doctorate Scientist in Basel to develop vascularized kidney organoids for drug discovery, leveraging single-cell genomics and iPSC-derived tissue models.

This position is part of a newly funded IHB fellowship within Roche’s Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) Division. The primary objective is to create translationally relevant systems for drug discovery and safety by generating organotypic, vascularized kidney organoids. The role involves defining innovative approaches to uncover biological principles of vascular–parenchymal interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation of vascularized iPSC-derived kidney organoids, emphasizing tissue specification and maturation.
  • Apply single-cell genomics to analyze endothelial specification, nephron maturation, and cell–cell communication.
  • Collaborate with bioengineers to integrate biological components into perfusable, next-generation culture systems.
  • Convert biological insights into functional, predictive models for assessing human kidney safety.

Requirements

  • Hold a PhD with a strong track record in iPSC-derived 3D tissue models or organoids.
  • Have completed doctoral studies within the last four years.
  • Demonstrate experience in generating and analyzing single-cell transcriptomic data.
  • Show ability to translate complex datasets into biological insight.

Nice to have

  • Strong background in developmental biology, with expertise in kidney, vascular, or related organ systems.

What the company offers

  • Opportunity to drive an ambitious research program at the interface of stem cell biology, vascular biology, and single-cell genomics.
  • Embedded in a highly interdisciplinary ecosystem working with leading experts in bioengineering, stem cell biology, and computational analysis.
  • Initial duration of 2 years, with the potential for extension.
